Win a copy of FtS during Extra Life!

Hello, fellow pseudopods,

Squamous Studios is proud to be participating in this year’s Extra Life, partnering up with the New England Gamers group to help raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Extra Life is a benefit wherein gamers run gaming events for 24 hours straight, and will kick off 3pm EST. You’ll have the chance to win one of several copies of Feed the Shoggoth during the Call of Cthulhu RPG event during the live stream. Head on over to http://twitch.tv/froggodgames this Friday, November 17th, and get in on the action! You can pitch in donations to have terrible things happen to the investigators during the CoC session; who knows, perhaps one of them will get eaten by a shoggoth…

New Interview up, and a show of support to Yog-Sothoth.com

Hello, fellow pseudopods,

First up, we wanted to tell you about an interview we did with Dark Tower Games recently, in which we discussed a number of projects that we at Squamous Studios have been involved in. Much of it focuses on the book design work that we do, but Feed the Shoggoth! talked about as well. You can check it out by heading here.

Second, and more importantly, there’s a bit of sad news to mention. Some of you may be familiar with the website Yog-Sothoth.com (otherwise known as YSDC). It has been one of the premier websites to support the HP Lovecraft and Cthulhu game community, whether it be Call of Cthulhu, Trail of Cthulhu, the various board and card games, or whathaveyou. The fellow that runs the site, Paul McClean, is an incredibly sweet and nice person.

There was a project started a few years ago to help raise money to support YSDC, in the form of a book called the Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion. A Kickstarter was formed, the project was successful, and a few years later, the book was released.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances i’m not entirely familiar with, there was an accounting error somewhere along the way, and the publisher ended up being short about £10,000. Paul, not wanting to see anyone lose money from this, gave that publisher that 10k back, out of his own pocket. That’s…a shit ton of money. And in order for Paul to try to mitigate that loss, he’s decided to sell his entire collection of CoC material. Of which he’s been accumulating since 1982.

Well, in an effort to give back a little support to Paul and YSDC, i, along with some other publishers, are having a fundraiser. From now until midnight, July 1st, i will be offering copies of Feed the Shoggoth! at a discount. Use this coupon code at checkout: YOGGIE17 , and you’ll get $5 off the core game. In addition, for every purchase during the fundraiser, $5 will be donated to YSDC to help keep it running.

Thanks for reading this. Our gaming community, while growing every year, is still pretty small, and sites like Yog-sothoth.com are integral to keeping it alive and thriving.

New Shoggoth mini in production!

Hello, fellow pseudopods,

We’ve gotten a lot of feedback about the game over the intervening months, and one thing that keeps on being brought up is that people are bummed that they missed out on getting the shoggoth miniature from the Kickstarter. Well, we have some good news! We’re working again with Jason McKittrick of Cryptocurium, who is now actively working on a new mini! We’re calling it the “shoggoth mini mini”, as this little fellow will be smaller than the original; about the diameter of the metal turn counter. It’ll be hand painted, and only run you a measly $10 (plus shipping).

When it’s available for purchase here, we’ll let you know. But for now, we’ll tease you with this photo of the prototype:

Also, there are rumblings in the Studio about work being done on the first Feed the Shoggoth! expansion, with a Kickstarter to follow. We’ll let you know more as things develop…

Feed the Shoggoth! is on sale!

Greetings, fellow pseudopods,

In light of the holiday season, what with Yithmass quickly approaching and all, we thought it would be a great idea to launch a sale of Feed the Shoggoth!. Yes, for the entire month of December, you’ll get $5 off your copy. In fact, each copy you purchase will get the discount. Normally $20, FtS! will run you just $15 with this coupon code:

shoggydec16

When you proceed to the checkout page, you’ll see a field to enter in the coupon code. Just drop it in there, and you’ll be good to go! FtS! will make a great stocking stuffer…but since Shoggoths leave a bit of a trail of slime, you may want to wash that stocking after. Or just set it on fire.

Official turn counter now available, and a new mini on the way

Greetings, fellow pseudopods,

We’re happy to announce that we have now made the official Feed the Shoggoth! turn counter available here at our webstore! The counter was originally made as part of the FtS! Kickstarter, but we have some leftover stock that we’re now making available for general purchase. Just click on the Shop button, and you can order it there.

In addition, we’re working again with Jason McKittrick of Cryptocurium fame to bring you a brand new Shoggoth mini! This little guy will be smaller than the original that was part of the KS (the original will remain a one time only thing), and should retail for about $10 plus shipping. When we have more news on that, we’ll post it here, but expect it to be available in a couple of months or so.

And finally, work is underway on our first expansion to Feed the Shoggoth!. It’ll feature brand new Spells, Artifacts…even Actions and Minion cards! In fact, we’ve got so many designs coming up that we may have to split these into two releases…but we’ll see. 🙂

As always, thanks for your support!

  • The latest issue of Casual Game Insider features a glowing review of FtS! In addition, they’re doing a big giveaway of games that’s still going on. You still have more than a month (as of this post) to enter in their Big Box O’ Games Giveaway!

That about does it for now!
